PUBLIC RADIO IN MID-AMERICA (PRIMA)

Board Conference call
April 8, 2008
2:30 p.m. Eastern Time
Minutes

Present: Cleve Callison, WMUB (President); Patty Wente,  KWMU (Past President); Christina Kuzmych, WFIU (Vice President) Dan Skinner, Texas Public Radio, (Secretary); Dorie Vallillo, WIUM (Treasurer), Jon Schwartz, Wyoming Public Radio, (Board Member No. 2), Bill Wheelhouse, WUIS, (Board Member No. 3)

I. Meeting began at 2:30 E.T.

II. National issues: LPFM (Jon)
NPR involved with negotiation regarding LPFM rules. The proposed LPFM legislation seems destined for approval. The question is what amendments can be made regarding interference issues, effect on translators, etc. before it is approved. (See April 4th AREPS message re: LPFM from Mike Rikson for more information) Cleve will send summary memo to PRIMA members regarding the issues.

III. National issues: Localism (Cleve)
Public Radio organizations and individual stations should file comments. Requirement for main studio to be staffed 24 hours a day, removing main studio waivers, would cause many public radio stations to shut down. Information on how to file comments with FCC is available on the NPR stations website.

IV. Fall conference (Christina)
Possible dates for Fall Conference in Chicago, Sept. 10-12 or October 1-3, have been suggested to WBEZ, which has expressed interest in hosting the meeting. The group discussed possible guests and topics for the conference. If WBEZ does not have a strong preference for a date, then Cleve will ask the PRIMA membership if they have a preference.

V. More thinking about Winter 09 and Fall 09 (Cleve and Christina)
Looking ahead, planning on Winter 2009 in San Antonio. Fall Meeting 2009 potentially in Nashville or Cincinnati.

VI. Other Items?
Discussion.

VIII. Meeting adjourned at 2:58 p.m. ET.

Respectfully submitted,
Dan Skinner, Secretary
