PUBLIC RADIO IN MID-AMERICA (PRIMA)

Board Conference Call
September 1, 2009
2:37 ET
Minutes

Present: Christina Kuzmych, WFIU (Acting President) Dan Skinner, Texas Public Radio, (Acting Vice President and Secretary); Dorie Vallillo, WIUM (Treasurer), Al Bartholet, WKSU (Board Member No. 1), Jon Schwartz, Wyoming Public Radio, (Board Member No. 2), Bill Wheelhouse, WUIS, (Board Member No. 3); Cleve Callison, WMUB (President);

I. Meeting began at 2:30 E.T.

II. Report on PRRO Conference Call
Christina reported on Public Radio Regional Organizations conference call. There was concern about attendance at the Regional Meetings and discussions about pairing regional meetings with some of the larger meetings such as PRDMC. There was also discussion about the additional emergency funding through CPB for stations. — PRIMA board members discussed future of PRIMA meetings. We have two PRIMA meetings per year. PRIMA could just meet once per year. Are the regional meetings even more important since there is no all inclusive Public Radio Conference? Thoughts were expressed that holding the Regional Meetings with the PRPD or PRDMC would not work well. Combined meetings could be potentially become too large to cover specific topics with enough detail and might last too may days to be practical for stations to attend.

III. Update on Chicago PRIMA Conference Planning
The PRIMA board approved the hiring of the Facilitator for the PRIMA conference. PRIMA Board Members will introduce the sessions. The board members discussed the proposed agenda and potential revisions to accommodate presenter travel schedules. Christina will make revisions to the agenda and send it out to the board for further comments. Christina continues to work on conference arrangements with WBEZ for Wait, Wait, etc. and with catering.

Christina presented a scholarship candidate. The PRIMA board approved the awarding of a partial scholarship to the Fall PRIMA Conference.

IV. Nominating Committee
Tim Eby is continuing to work on the nominating committee process in anticipation of the elections at the next PRIMA meeting. Christina will update the election/term schedule and distribute it to the Board Members.

V. Meeting adjourned at 3:04 p.m. E.T.

Respectfully submitted,
Dan Skinner, Secretary
