PUBLIC RADIO IN MID-AMERICA (PRIMA)
Board Conference Call
June 23, 2009
2:37 ET
Minutes
Present: Cleve Callison, WMUB (President); Christina Kuzmych, WFIU (Vice President) Dan Skinner, Texas Public Radio, (Secretary); Dorie Vallillo, WIUM (Treasurer), Jon Schwartz, Wyoming Public Radio, (Board Member No. 2), Bill Wheelhouse, WUIS, (Board Member No. 3)
I. Meeting began at 2:33 E.T.
II. HD Power Increase
Regional Organizations are being asked to join with WSPR on filing regarding FCC Public Notice on HD Radio Power Increase instead of filing comments as separate organizations or individual stations. Joint filing makes a stronger case than individual filings. The members voted to join with WSPR in filing comments in support of HD Power Increase.
III. Change in President & Vice President Offices
Cleve Callison’s term as WMUB Station Manager concludes at the end of the month, therefore this conference call will be his last as PRIMA president. The Bylaws direct that the Vice President assumes the role of President until the next election. Christina Kuzmych will assume the role of president until the next PRIMA election. Dan Skinner will assume the role of VP of PRIMA until the next election. This leaves the Secretary position open, but Dan will fill-in for the Secretary position until the next election. Christina will attend the NPR Meeting July as the new President of PRIMA.
IV. Nominating Committee
Tim Eby, Tim Singleton, Regina Dean and Jay Pearce will comprise the Nominating Committee. Christina will consult with Tim Eby regarding the new status of the board officers and the open Secretary position.
V. Fall 2009 Conference Planning
Christina reviewed the current agenda plan with PRIMA suite at the hotel and meetings held at WBEZ. Breakfast will be “on your own” at the hotel (included in the price of the room) with meetings starting at 8 a.m. at WBEZ. Meeting at WBEZ will save PRIMA meeting room and equipment expense. Working on discounted tickets to “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.” Tickets to see “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me,” will be included in the cost of the registration for the conference. Christina will check on whether the attrition rate for the rooms is negotiable.
VI. Report on Possible Facilitators
Cleve and Christina held phone conference with potential facilitators for the Chicago Conference. They expressed to the facilitators that we want to follow up on the work started in San Antonio. Christina suggested the board meet with the facilitators and hour in advance to brief them on public radio prior to the meetings.
VII. Callison Farwell
Cleve expressed his appreciation of PRIMA and working his public radio colleagues. He will continue working toward finding a new Public Radio Management position. The Board expressed their appreciation for all of Cleve’s service to PRIMA, wished him well and expressed hope that he will soon rejoin the group
Respectfully submitted,
Dan Skinner, Secretary
